Soft sky, blue and white
cloud swelling over low hills,
delta waters,
twilight sloughs
calling to geese and egret,
kingfisher and mallard
to lounge in waving reeds
as grazing cattle linger
in verdant valley.
Like a river the road flows
down to the sacred sea,
to the deep, living stream
of Earth.
That last stanza is so vivid, and perfect to close this gorgeous tour! Helped ease my housebound wanderlust:)
ReplyDeleteI never get to travel down the long highway...that is all my hubby does and when he gets home he does NOT want to drive anywhere. The kids use my vehicle during the day...thus much poetry time:)))on the days I don't baby-sit. I have been thrilled to read your poetry, Your gift is special.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Janet. Take a drive sometime! Tell your husband to take a road he's never taken before and give yourselves a few hours.... it can be fun!
ReplyDeleteSteven,
ReplyDeleteA beautiful journey taken via your expressive words....
Eileen
I love the metaphor of the road as a river down to the sacred sea. This is so inspirational and vivid... so much beauty.
