Morning storm
smashing rain
on our
highest panes
we watched in wonder
as swaying trunks
grow drunk
with heaven’s wine
but noonday trees
stand sober
glittering green
on absolute blue
the crystal sky
of spring.

Death Waits on the Shores of Tripoli
He scans the desert night
for apocalyptic stars
and shrieks with delight
when hurtling spears
pierce pounding hearts.
Desert sands
lust for blood;
life declines
to ancient dust.

Desert sands
lust for blood;
life declines
to ancient dust.

Fukushima
Twisted steel, writhing iron
grasping girders
bones of failure
but power
still fills
the empty spaces.
Before, it coursed through
thin ribbons, through high wires
tense in the fog.
But now, deep within the devastation
efficient atoms hum in
hot expectation
as delicate clouds
drift
toward the desperate city.
