In the Human Community

in the human community
laughter fills the air,
deep voiced fathers, uncles,
small children laughing, playing tag,
playing hide
and seek
as birdsong pierces
the opaque sky
fills with ancient peace
the resurrection-trees of resurgent spring
in the human community.

  1. Beautiful, Steven. I love how often there are birds in your poems. I so love them, too.

  2. Thank you. I live about 2 miles from a major bird sanctuary, the Suisun Marsh (part of the Sacramento River Delta).... so we have many and varied birds around all the time.
