Nightfall
the darkness rises
over low roofs
past the weak glow
of my window -
through rough fences
into trees it drifts
black space
filling the holes
between roses.

Nocturne: October
level land
fields
blown brown
and hard
fade with day
to
hazy
night.
the wind does not move!
there’s
a smudge
on the
moon
and
even
the geese
are
silent.

Wolf Moon
2013 (Richard Barnhill

)
the wolf moon rising
hard, red, sure
black night’s
bloody core.
