Vallejo Nocturne

Bright Venus rising,
silver bay gleaming
tall Tamalpaias,
contrapposto
against the glowing

night sky,

spreading

a red smudge
where the hot sun
succumbs
to bright city lights,
glittering
rays of glory,
the cosmos contained
in this throbbing web
aching
like the stars themselves.
